Mental Health America of Oregon sponsors a
listserv for people who use/have used mental health services called Peerlinc
who live mainly in Oregon; however the list is open to people outside of Oregon.
To subscribe to the listserv, send an email
to PEERLINC-REQEST@LISTSERV.ICORS.ORG. This email then will be
sent to the list owners who will respond to you and ask you a few
questions. The purpose of the questions
is to get to know you a little bit, and ensure that there is a real person
behind the request and not a spam bot.
Before subscribing please read the
Nettiquette below. This list is not
moderated generally speaking. We expect
people to treat each other with respect.
We do not wish to censor the list.
However, if you overstep the guidelines, the list owners will not
hesitate to moderate your posts and possibly suspend you from the list. We don’t like to be the boundary enforcer,
but we will be when necessary.
The volume of the list can vary from one
email every few days to 20-30 emails per day.
There is an option to receive a digest of the postings which results in
less emails and there is also an option to read the emails on the web and receive
no email. Please feel free to request
your subscription to be changed if one of these options works better for
you.
To leave the list, send a SIGNOFF
PEERLINC command to
LISTSERV@LISTSERV.ICORS.ORG or, if you
experience difficulties, write to PEERLINC-request@LISTSERV.ICORS.ORG."
PEERLINC NETTIQUETTE
1.
Be respectful.
2.
Remember that email is text and
you cannot see the nonverbal language or hear the tone of voice that the person
said.
3.
Speak from your own
experience.
4.
Using CAPITOL LETTERS LIKE THIS
is considered yelling. No one wants to be yelled at.
5.
If you want to emphasize
certain words, you can _underscore_ them for emphasis.
6.
When you reply to a message,
include only a few lines so that people can see what you are responding to in
your reply.
7.
Do not forward emails without
asking permission of the original sender—unless the permission is granted in
the email.
8.
If you want to say “thanks” or
“me too” and nothing else in response, send the email to the sender and not the
whole list. You will need to pay attention to the reply to email
address.
9.
There is no such thing as
privacy on the net. Don’t write anything you wouldn’t say in
public.
10. Use the subject line in your header.
11. Periodic posts that are considered off topic (e.g. not related
to the general topic of the list should be marked ***off topic*** to let the
reader know that this email is not part of what is generally discussed on the
list.
12. Trim your posts.
ICORS.ORG is our listserv host.
ICORS donates server space for our listserv. We need to be conscience about how much
server space we take up. When responding
to a post from someone else, please trim the post down to 3 or 4 specific lines
to which you are responding.
