Introducting Peer Linc Email List

Mental Health America of Oregon hosts a list serv to discuss issues, concerns and announcements of upcoming events related to mental health services in Oregon.  If you are interested in subscribing to this email list, send an email message to Peerlinc-subscribe-request@LISTSERV.ICORS.ORG.  That will let the list moderators know that you have sent a request to subscribe to the list.  We will then approve your subscription.  The reason we have list moderators is to keep out spam.  We are not interested in controlling the conversation.

After you are subscribed, to send a message to the list, send it to peerlinc@listserv.icors.org.  Our email list does not accept attachments such as a document or flier due to the possibility of viruses.  If you have an attachment that you want to distribute to people on the list, you can ask them to email you off the list and then you can send it to them privately.

If you need an email address, there are several programs that allow you to have a free email address.  Google mail, hotmail, and Yahoo all have free email accounts, and there are several other places that offer free email accounts.

To unsubscribe send an email to Peerlinc-unsubscribe-request@LISTSERVICORS.ORG.  This will help the list moderators know that you wish to unsubscribe from the list.

If you are new to using email and the internet, you may wish to check out this website:  http://www.learnthenet.com/English/html/65mailet.htm. Below are some basic netiquette (etiquette for the internet) guidelines:

1. Be respectful.
2. Remember that email is text and you cannot see the nonverbal language or hear the tone of voice that the person said.
3. Speak from your own experience.
4. Using CAPITOL LETTERS LIKE THIS is considered yelling.  No one wants to be yelled at.
5. If you want to emphasize certain words, you can _underscore_ them for emphasis.
6. When you reply to a message, include only a few lines so that people can see what you are responding to in your reply.
7. Do not forward emails with out asking permission of the original sender—unless the permission is granted in the email.
8. If you want to say “thanks” or “me too” and nothing else in response, send the email to the sender and not the whole list.  You will need to pay attention to the reply to email address.
9. There is no such thing as privacy on the net.  Don’t write anything you wouldn’t say in public.
10. Use the subject line in your header.
11. Periodic posts that are considered off topic (e.g. not related to the general topic of the list should be marked ***off topic*** to let the reader know that this email is not part of what is generally discussed on the list.

We hope that you will join our list and broaden the discussion about mental health services in Oregon, recovery, peer support, and other topics related to mental health.
